International Organ Summer

A top-class programme featuring international guests from July, 3 to August,28

The 21st International Organ Summer at Berlin Cathedral begins on July, 3. For two months, every Friday at 8 pm, the famous Sauer organ – with its 7,269 pipes spread across 113 stops – will be in action. In keeping with the finest tradition and much appreciated by the audience, the organists’ performances at the grand console will once again be shown via video projection on a screen inside the church.

Cathedral organist Andreas Sieling will provide the ‘Symphonic Opening’ on July, 3 with the moving Second Symphony by the Parisian organist Eugène Gigout. Further highlights include: ‘Mozart Meets the Universe!’ with Cologne Cathedral organist Winfried Bönig on July, 10 and ‘Chopin and His Friends!’, presented by Warsaw organist Adam Tański on August, 14. In keeping with tradition, this year’s International Organ Summer will once again conclude with a silent film evening: on August, 28, Christoph Schönfelder, cathedral organist at St Gallen Cathedral, will improvise live on the grand Sauer organ to accompany the award-winning documentary ‘Mikrokosmos – The People of the Grasses’.

The idea for the International Organ Summer came from cathedral organist Andreas Sieling. He launched the series in 2005 and has been developing it ever since with great success and enthusiasm: well over 100 internationally renowned organists have accepted his invitation to date.
