Music during the service

Services held at Berlin Cathedral are always a musical treat. Our world-famous ‘Sauer’ organ can be heard during every service of worship and Vesper. The musical ensembles belonging to Berlin Cathedral also regularly organise Christian celebrations: the Berlin Cathedral Choir, the Parish Choir, The English Choir Berlin and the State and Cathedral Choir.

The so-called Cantata services are wonderful feature of the Berlin Cathedral Choir during which a complete cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach is performed. In addition to the large ensembles, solo musicians regularly perform pieces of music, for example on the trumpet or saxophone. Domvesper and Choral Evensong

Our Cathedral Vespers invite you to wind down the week in a peaceful atmosphere with organ or choral music, to reflect on the past week, and to look forward to Sunday. Every Saturday at 6:00 p.m., music is performed in Berlin Cathedral that relates to the coming Sunday. In addition, the Sunday psalm and Gospel are read, and the hymn of the week is sung. Cathedral Vespers last about 45 minutes, and admission is, of course, free. Once a month, we celebrate Cathedral Vespers as Choral Evensong in the Anglican tradition. This special form of Cathedral Vespers is primarily led by a choir, »The English Choir Berlin«, under the direction of William Peart.
