On the dome picture on the left you can see the already cleaned apostles James the Greater and Paul. The sculptures of Peter and Andrew on the right still need to be freed from encrustations. The differences are clear to see.
Cleaning one apostle costs 6,000 euros. Please contact us if you would like to support us in cleaning a figure of Berlin Cathedral. As a token of our appreciation, we will honour you with a brass plaque on our donor board in the cathedral.
The before/after difference is currently especially impressive when you look at the façade from the Lustgarten below. The refurbished bell tower boasts a light sandstone tone, while the other towers are still black.
Above all, the numerous decorative elements on the façade of Berlin Cathedral have suffered greatly from environmental influences in recent decades. These pictures also give you a clear impression of why the valuable sandstone must be urgently cleaned for more than just monumental conservation reasons.
Cleaning one decorative element similar to the lion’s head costs 1,500 euros. Your donation would be very welcome here too.
