Become a parish member

Would you like to become a member of Berlin Cathedral Parish?

Berlin Cathedral is a so-called personal parish. In other words, any Evangelical Christian who has been baptised and who lives in Berlin and Brandenburg can become a member of the Cathedral parish. If you would like to become a member of the Cathedral parish, you can submit your own application. It makes no difference whether your apartment is close to the Cathedral or not.

Once you have submitted a membership application to us, one of our Cathedral Deans will invite you to an admission interview. Thereafter, the Cathedral Council decides on your application.

Are you looking to become a member of the Protestant church for the first time?

Have you not been baptised and have therefore never been a member of the Evangelical church? In this case, you will be given an introduction to the Christian faith before being able to enter the Protestant church. Berlin Cathedral also offers special baptismal courses for adults hosted by Pastor Birte Biebuyck. The baptism itself takes place on Easter Eve as part of a ceremonial service held at Berlin Cathedral. After being baptised you will become a member of the Protestant church.

Have you ever been a member of the Evangelical church, who left and would like to return?

Then you can do this every Friday from 4 PM till 7 PM at the registration office of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg in Berlin Cathedral. You can also talk with a retired Pastor during this time even without prior registration and – should you wish to do so – join the church immediately thereafter. The conversation with the Pastor focuses on your questions, expectations and wishes. It should help you to understand the reasons for your re-entry. This conversation is not a test of your faith but rather a process of getting to know one another and an opportunity for you to speak with someone regarding this important decision. Please ensure to bring your identity card, your birth certificate, your confirmation certificate (if you have already been confirmed) and your certificate of resignation.
