Digitalisation, which became clear at the latest with the onset of the pandemic, is an important building block for the Berlin Cathedral as well. Since March 2020, we have continued to expand the streaming of our services. In the meantime, thousands of people in Germany and around the world celebrate services with us every Sunday.
Making the digital service even more convenient was therefore a major concern for us. We asked ourselves what a digital service could look like that would also allow our new, growing "digital congregation" to be easily reached and participate without hurdles?
The first version of the new Berlin Cathedral app is now ready. In addition to the streaming option of the 10 a.m. services on Sundays, the app offers an overview of all offers and events and informs about news from the cathedral. In addition, there is a very special way to give strength and comfort to your relatives, friends and acquaintances: the digital candle. We light your candle and send a picture of the burning candle by e-mail or post to the address of your choice. This is where analogue religiosity and digital transformation intertwine, and we use the best of digital technology to meet our age-old needs for intercession in the 21st century.
