The new mediation room

Before visitors enter the actual burial chamber, they enter a room that prepares them for their visit to the crypt. Here, the history of the burial chamber and the people buried here, as well as background information on the circumstances of their deaths and burial traditions over the last few centuries, are sensitively illustrated through objects, texts, films and a scale interactive model of the crypt.

When it was built, this room was a kind of transition space between the basement of the memorial church and the burial chamber. Today, it serves as a transition space between the lively hustle and bustle of the preaching church and the crypt as a place of rest for the dead.

A particularly touching object in the educational room is the wax figure of one of Queen Sophie Dorothea's children. She had her four children, who died at an early age, recreated as lifelike wax figures. This not only served as a personal memento, but also demonstrated the fertility of the dynasty.
