A vibrant place that embodies the Christian faith needs your help

You can also support Berlin Cathedral!

Berlin Cathedral parish is required to generate 97% of its annual budget itself. This distinguishes Berlin Cathedral from all other parishes in Germany. Only 3% of our income originates from church taxes and grants awarded by the state of Berlin. We require approximately €15,000 PER DAY for the upkeep of the listed building, the musicians, the services of worship, electricity, the security provider, members of staff and much more.

Without the huge number of supporters, that would hardly be possible. The Berlin Cathedral Foundation (‘Berliner-Dom-Stiftung’), the Berlin Cathedral Construction Association (‘Berliner Dombau-Verein’), Friends of Berlin Cathedral (‘Berliner-Dom-Freunde’), the Bärbel Vasak Foundation (‘Bärbel Vasak Stiftung’) and the Sponsoring Association of the Berlin Cathedral Choir (‘Förderverein der Berliner Domkantorei’) all share a common goal: they support the Cathedral parish in its work by running numerous donation campaigns.

You can discover more about the work undertaken by the Foundations and Associations here, and donate online. You can also support Berlin Cathedral in this way and help preserve this historically unique monument situated in the heart of the capital, ensuring that it remains a thriving place for the Christian faith.

Berlin Cathedral Foundation (‘Berliner-Dom-Stiftung’)

More Cathedral – More Culture! This was the motto of the Berlin Cathedral Foundation (‘Berliner-Dom-Stiftung’) which was created in 2009 by parish members, friends and patrons of Berlin Cathedral. Their goal is provide the Cathedral with financial and conceptual support in the long term. Because only a select few know this: Berlin Cathedral belongs to its parish. The annual budget of around €6 million (as of 2018) is 97% self-generated. Just 3% of the total budget originates from church tax.

Berlin Cathedral Construction Association (Berliner Dombau-Verein e.V.)

The Berlin Cathedral Construction Association (Berliner Dombau-Verein e.V.) was founded in 1994, one year after the re-inauguration of Berlin Cathedral. At that point in time the building was still under construction in part. To date, the Berlin Cathedral Construction Association (‘Berliner Dombau-Verein’) has, for example, funded the reconstruction of the altar windows and dome mosaics. It also supported the re-establishment of the Cathedral museum, in which the history of the Cathedral’s construction is well documented.

Sponsoring association ‘Förderkreis der Berliner Domkantorei e.V.’

The sponsoring association (Förderkreis) regularly organises choir breaks and excursions, and ensures that no one should be forced to stay at home for lack of financial resources. The association's own funds were also used in recent years to restore and digitally archive the choir’s extensive music library. By taking on deficit guarantees, we are able to risk the performance of lesser well-known and attended ecclesiastical music works. We manage the sale and distribution of CDs previously recorded by the Berlin Cathedral Choir, and promote newly scheduled productions.
