At first glance, Berlin Cathedral appears splendid, rich and beautifully preserved in the centre of Berlin.

But first impressions are deceiving.

The building is in urgent need of refurbishment; its maintenance and operation consume several million euros each year. 97% of these funds must be generated by the parish community. Just 3% of the Cathedral’s budget originates from church taxes and donations of the state of Berlin.

Your help and support are therefore extremely valuable and important for Berlin Cathedral!

We appreciate every donation, regardless of its amount. You can donate online without hassle via the donations portal provided by the ‘Bank für Kirche und Diakonie’:

Project – cleaning the façades

A building that is over one hundred years of age such as Berlin Cathedral always has something broken, and there is always something to be restored or refurbished. We are currently in the process of repairing the damage to the path that runs along the river Spree, and are removing encrustations from the façades which have formed over the decades. The black spots need to be removed urgently, given that the sandstone is slowly being destroyed.

Project: Hohenzollern family crypt – barrier-free access

We have made both the Hohenzollern family crypt – an historic treasure – and Berlin Cathedral accessible to all thanks to restoration and ongoing development works. We are preserving nationally significant heritage and creating space for history. The Hohenzollern family crypt is a dignified, dynastic burial tomb in which visitors can experience both devotion and tranquillity in what is an historically significant place of national commemoration.

On our website you will learn more about our plans, the history of the tomb and Berlin Cathedral itself:
